Terms of Enrollment at Kuopio Community College.
Students can sign up for courses by internet, by telephone, or in person at the Customer Service Desk at the Puistokartano building. For security reasons enrollment cannot be done by email. Internet enrollment is in Finnish. However, the Customer Service Desk has enrollment forms in Finnish, English and Russian. The Customer Service Desk also has staff that speaks English.
There is limited space available in all of our courses. We suggest that students sign up for courses as early as possible in order to make sure that they have a place in the course.
For enrollment we will need the following information:
-name or number of the course -name and ID-number of the student
-contact information of the student, including address, telephone number and e-mail
-educational background and employment status (for Statistics Finland)
Enrollment for Children and Teens
If a student is under the age of 18 we will need the address, telephone number and email address of one of his or her parents.
The child’s parent is responsible for paying the course fees.
Enrollment Is Binding
When you sign up for a course you are agreeing to pay the course fee as well as any material fees.
Terms of canceling the enrollment
You can cancel your enrollment free of charge latest 6 days before the course begins. Please note the opening times of the service desk. If the last free cancellation day is during the weekend or bank holiday, you have to make the cancellation on the previous working day.
Free cancellation is possible if the school(Kansalaisopisto) changes the time or place of the course substantially.
If the student has to cancel the course due to health reasons in the beginning of the course, the cancellation fee is 15€ + the lessons attended. The student has to send the medical certificate and her/his bank account number to the customer service office. If the student has attended over half of the lessons, no refund will be paid.
If the college changes the teacher or if the student has chosen a course at a wrong level – it is not a reason for free cancellation. It is possible to change the course for another level if there are course places available, please contact the Service Desk.
The course will begin if there are enough participants (each course has a set minimum) 6 days before the beginning of the course. If a course is cancelled, students will be informed by a text message. The college is not responsible for course changes that that are not caused by the college. The students will be informed on any course changes by a text message.
Paying the course fee
The invoice will be sent after the course has started. If you have a right to a discount, you have to contact the Service Desk before the course begins. There are discounts for unemployed, retired people and immigrants (only courses marked OPINTOSETELIKURSSI) ,for siblings if more than one sibling under 16 years participate. The parent of a child under the age of 18 who signs their child up is also agreeing to pay the child’s course fee as well as any material fees.
You will get a notice of your place in the course immediately after signing up. If the course is full you can be placed on a waiting list, and the Customer Service Desk will call you if you are able to get into the course.
For courses where a child and a parent both participate, they both must be signed up for the course. Registration for courses is done for each semester separately. If you wish to continue in the same course on the following
semester, you must sign up for both autumn (syksy) and spring (kevät) semesters.
We suggest students enroll as early as possible to make sure they have a place in the course.
